Dittany Moon & Summer Solstice
Summer Solstice - June 21st
On the first day of Summer the Summer Solstice Sabbat is celebrated and is also known as Midsummer. It marks the longest day of the year when the Sun is at its zenith. The Summer Solstice celebrates the joy, warmth and laughter of summer and of the power of the Sun.
Summer Solstice Honouring the Gifts of Nature Exercise
Plan in advance a simple walk to honour the gifts of nature. Go to a forest, lakeside, the ocean, the mountains or hillside or a quiet garden or public park. Breathe deeply as you take in all the sights, sounds, smells and feelings of nature as it surrounds you.
Summer relates to the element of Fire with corresponding colours of red, orange and yellow. Notice the elements around you – Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Pay attention to the element of Fire that surrounds you and how it relates to all your senses. Feel the warmth of the Sun on your body; feel the heat within you radiating from deep within your chest outward towards your legs and feet, your arms and hands. Feel both the inner heat from within you combining with the outer heat coming from the Sun.
Silently ask the element of Fire and Spirit to connect with you and aid you with your creativity, passion and motivation and putting your ideas into action.
At this time be open to any messages that come to you.
Look for gifts of nature connected with summertime and the element of Fire - a red, orange or yellow flower. Let the joys of nature seep into your soul as you stroll along.
On your return home, place representatives of the element of Fire upon your altar. These items can be things you have collected on your walk or beautiful things in the colours red, orange or yellow you have already in your possession.
As you look upon your altar take a few moments to focus on your creativity and the element of Fire and know that the positive qualities of the element of Fire will remain with you to aid your motivation and passion to put your creative ideas into action and create success.
The Dittany Moon - Full Moon July 16th
During the Dittany Moon period it is the perfect time to conduct Magic that is connected with increasing intuition and psychic ability. Cast the following Spell on the evening of the full moon during the Dittany phase and await increased intuition!
The Cancer zodiacal constellation that covers the time period of 21 June - 21 July is known as the Dittany Moon. Throughout this time period the focus is placed upon your intuition, developing spiritually and psychically. Allow yourself time and space to explore your own inner feelings and how you connect with the world around you.
This Psychic Spell will help to open up your psychic abilities.
Prepare your tools & ingredients on your Altar
- Dried Lavender, dried Thyme, dried Dittany & 3 Dried Bay Laurel Leaves in a flameproof dish
- An altar candle
- A small container to hold salt
- A small dish or bowl to hold water
- A tall purple candle with holder
- Lavender Oil
You can also add purple crystals such as amethyst and the Tarot card of the High Priestess to your Altar.
Before you commence
Ignite the dried herbs in the flameproof dish so they emit smoke.
Light your altar candle.
Create your Sacred Space & Circle
Concentrate and visualise a sphere of gold light forming around you and expanding outwards in every direction to form your Sacred space
Call upon the Elements
Concentrate on all five Elements of Air, Earth, Water, Fire and Spirit and how they are within you, represented on your Altar and in the world around you.
Raise energy
Raising your energy is bringing forth all your energy inside you and preparing to release it at the end of the Spell to go out into the world and create the changes you desire. Imagine the energy in the form of a white light flowing throughout your body forming a ball of light deep in your chest. Tense every muscle in your body until you feel ‘fully charged’. Relax and take a few deep breaths before proceeding.
Recite your Spell
Anoint your tall purple candle with the Lavender oil by carefully and purposefully rubbing 3-5 drops of the oil all over the candle. Think of the elements of air, fire, earth and water within and around you. Set the candle in a holder at the centre of your altar and light it from the flame of your altar candle. Carefully, pass the lit candle in a wide circle around your head, transferring it from one hand to the other behind and above your head. Do this three times, visualising the candle flame leaving behind it a circle of psychic purple light that surrounds you.
Say 3 times aloud:
‘By the Full Moon of the night
with energies bright
I am ready to accept Spirit to me
So mote it be’
Release energy
After your Spell is complete you will need to release and send out the energy that you raised. This energy is released into the world to create the change you desire. To do this you will need to stand before your altar and imagine the ball of light in your chest once more. Again tense all your muscles and begin to ‘push’ the energy upward. Then stand comfortably with your feet apart and thrust your arms upwards and outwards to form a star shape with your body. Exhale and imagine sending this energy out into the air. When this is complete, stand with feet together and touch each shoulder with opposite arms to form a cross against your chest.
Ground yourself
Relax, take some deep breaths and imagine and visualise the golden sphere around you becoming smaller until it disappears.
