This coming month sees the Sabbat of Lammas which is celebrated on August 1st. This Sabbat marks the first harvest celebration. This is the early harvest, the harvest of grains that are used to create bread. Light begins to diminish as the days shorten and we begin the journey towards winter.

Lammas Rainbow Honouring the Gifts of Nature Exercise

Plan in advance a simple walk to honour the gifts of nature. Go to a forest, lakeside, the ocean, the mountains or hillside or a quiet garden or public park. Breathe deeply as you take in all the sights, sounds, smells and feelings of nature as it surrounds you. Pay attention to all the elements that surround you and how they relate to all your senses. Look for gifts of nature - a beautiful stone, a perfect flower, the sound of birdsong.

Let the joys of nature seep into your soul as you stroll along. Look for all the colours of the rainbow as you stroll along. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. If you are very, very lucky you will see a rainbow in the sky – if not, look for every colour in the stones, pebbles, river, sky, trees, flowers, birds, butterflies etc. Look closely at each colour and take into you its particular energy as you stop momentarily to focus on each one.

On your return home, place representatives of each colour of the rainbow upon your altar. These items can be things you have collected on your walk or beautiful things you have already in your possession.

As you look upon your altar take a few moments to remember your senses, the elements and the colours on your walk and know that they will remain with you to give you strength, empowerment and knowledge that you are connected with everything and everyone.

Laurel Moon August 15

The Laurel Moon comes under the influence of the constellation of Leo (22 July-21 August). This is time of great positive energy and potential for making dramatic and major life changing decisions. Take full advantage of this special time to build up your confidence and use determination and persistence to get what you really want from life.

During the Laurel Moon period and on the evening of the full moon it is the perfect time for Spell casting for increased love of yourself, raising self-esteem and increasing confidence. Cast the following Spell on the evening of the full moon during the Laurel phase and watch your confidence swell!

Confidence Spell Cast on the Laurel Full Moon

This Confidence Spell will boost your confidence and encourage you to love and trust yourself.

Prepare your tools & ingredients on your Altar

Dried Sage, dried Chamomile, dried Thyme and dried Rosemary in a flameproof dish
An altar candle
A small container to hold salt
A small dish or bowl to hold water
A tall red candle with holder
A flameproof dish, ashtray or plate
Cinnamon Oil
13 Bay Laurel leaves

You can also add red crystals such as red jaspar and the Tarot card of the Emperor, the Magician and the Sun to your Altar.

Before you commence

Blend two drops each of the Cinnamon oil with a small amount of carrier oil.
Ignite the dried herbs in the flameproof dish so they emit smoke.
Light your altar candle.
Write 13 of your best qualities, attributes or good points on each of the Bay Laurel leaves.

Create your Sacred Space & Circle

Concentrate and visualise a sphere of gold light forming around you and expanding outwards in every direction to form your Sacred space

Call upon the elements

Concentrate on all five elements of Air, Earth, Water, Fire and Spirit and how they are within you, represented on your Altar and in the world around you.

Raise energy

Raising your energy is bringing forth all your energy inside you and preparing to release it at the end of the Spell to go out into the world and create the changes you desire. Imagine the energy in the form of a white light flowing throughout your body forming a ball of light deep in your chest. Tense every muscle in your body until you feel ‘fully charged’. Relax and take a few deep breaths before proceeding.

Recite your Spell

Anoint your tall red candle with the cinnamon oil by carefully and purposefully rubbing the oil all over the candle. Set the candle in a holder at the centre of your altar and light it.

Hold all 13 Bay Laurel leaves in your hand and read aloud one at a time each quality. As you do so from the flame of the tall red candle burn each leaf in turn and place safely in flameproof dish to burn away.

Recite 3 times:

‘My qualities will come to the fore
And multiply more and more
Bringing confidence to me
So mote it be’

Release energy

After your Spell is complete you will need to release and send out the energy that you raised. This energy is released into the world to create the change you desire. To do this you will need to stand before your altar and imagine the ball of light in your chest once more. Again tense all your muscles and begin to ‘push’ the energy upward. Then stand comfortably with your feet apart and thrust your arms upwards and outwards to form a star shape with your body. Exhale and imagine sending this energy out into the air. When this is complete, stand with feet together and touch each shoulder with opposite arms to form a cross against your chest.

Ground yourself

Relax, take some deep breaths and imagine and visualise the golden sphere around you becoming smaller until it disappears.
