It is said to lift the mood of people and lessen the effects of depression, sadness and loss.

Magical Crystal Meanings of Amber

Amber is connected with the Element of Fire, the direction South and is also connected to the Tarot card of the Sun.

Magical purposes for use in rituals and Spell work associated with this stone are for luck, strength and love.

Witches, Wise Women, and Shamans wear Amber to strengthen their Spells. A large piece of Amber placed on an altar increases the effectiveness of Magic.

Myth, Legend and Folklore

The ancient Greeks were the first to record information about Amber's ‘electrical’ properties. When you rub it, static electricity is generated. The ancient Greeks called it (electron) which is where the modern word of electricity derives its name.

Because of the inclusions of insects and small animals, it was often thought to contain the essence of life and was believed to offer a magical light for the deceased as they progressed through the underworld.

Amber has always been associated with Magic. It is a favourite protective and enhancing stone of Wiccans and Shamans. It is a sensual stone that attracts love.

Scientific Information

Amber is not a true stone but is fossilized resin of coniferous trees from thirty million years ago. It varies in colour from pale yellow to dark brown and is famous for containing insects and small animals which became stuck and enclosed in the resin while it was still liquid. It is a very soft stone, with a hardness of 2.

It is found mainly in the Baltic seacoast.
