The Craft...
 WITCHCRAFT |
The Craft known as Witchcraft is what Witches – either Solitary Witches or in Covens – practice. For some it is a form of religion. The Craft has been popularized and modernized by followers of the Wicca religion. Wicca is a relatively modern interpretation of the Craft.
The Wicca tradition follows the ways of the Craft such as honouring Esbats, Sabbats and following the Wheel of the Year. In the Wicca tradition the Wiccan Rede lays out the basic ground rules to live by.
Within the Craft and Wicca there is no central authority or written scriptures and Witches and Pagans can and do vary their worship, beliefs, practices and daily lives to honour nature in the ways of their choosing.
Unlike some religions, rather than being told what you must think, feel and do, with a set of strict rules, laws and commandments to adhere to, Witches have one main rule.
“An It Harm None, Do As Ye Will.”
Many Covens such as the Green Witches Coven follow the Craft as a way of life. Witchcraft is not just about casting Magic Spells, it encompasses honouring and respecting nature. Witches in Covens or on their own as Solitaries need to know and honour the Esbats – full moon phase and the Sabbats – which are seasonal celebrations marking the Wheel of the Year. Witches practicing the Craft need to be aware of the Elements, how to create and maintain an altar and how to cast Magic Spells.

Incidentally, you may be aware that the spelling of the word Magic can vary when used to describe rituals and Magic Spells carried out by Wiccans and other Spell casters. Sometimes you will see the word Magick or Magik. I will use the English spelling of Magic throughout this site.
